FULCRUM

About Fulcrum

Over the past ten years FULCRUM has been working with organisations to help increase their productivity by optimizing the valuable and unique skills their Adult Dyslexic employees possess.

Not only does the Fulcrum methodology result in higher standards within organisations, it also endows individuals with the knowledge that so much more is possible.

Our main facilitator Alan McDowell, Managing Director of FULCRUM, is a former trustee of the board of the British Dyslexia Association and Chair of the Association Board overseeing one hundred organisations. He is also a director and founder of The Dyslexia Foundation and the European Dyslexia Awareness Organisation.

Fulcrum has carried out successful Adult Dyslexia Awareness Training and Seminars at a wide variety of commercial organisations - including IBM, Cadbury, HSBC, Wedgewood, Land Rover, Unilever, First Direct Bank, Birmingham Skills Council, The Health and Safety Executive, Halifax Bank - and statutory and voluntary bodies in the UK and Europe.

The focus of Fulcrum's work for the past ten years has been working with adults with Dyslexia. The orgnanisation's overall aim is to change the balance of how Dyslexia is perceived and dealt with, from being a negative to a positive attribute.

Alan McDowell says, "The representatives of Dyslexics and those who 'research it' have created a negative perception of Dyslexia which has been to the detriment of 10% of the population.

"It has conditioned many people with Dyslexia to a life of self-doubt carrying much baggage around, when we know it should be to the contrary.
"We commend those dyslexics who have succeeded and those who tell us that their lack of reading and writing skills have not played an important role in their career and personal development and yet the 'establishment' tells us all through school, something to the contrary.

"The world presupposes that the 'Dyslexia Experience' is solely to do with learning difficulty and this is continually reinforced by the language many 'experts' continue to use.

"We at Fulcrum are changing the Adult Dyslexic's perception of their world, giving them the tools to succeed and above all showing them a way to start to enjoy life."

"Alan is like the older brother I do not have, who has gently taken me by the hand and shown me wondrous things I had never seen before.

My life has changed, permanently, for the better -Thank you."
